Barbara started a political career as Chief of Staff to the Connecticut Senate Minority Leader, having worked in the leadership office for five years. During her tenure, she managed and worked as press secretary for several statewide campaigns.

In 1982, she joined the Capitol press corps as the manager for the Connecticut State News Bureau, a syndicated news service supplying print media clients and the Connecticut and New York Business Journals. Barbara also wrote as a stringer for the New York Times and was a regular panelist for CPTV’s weekly political news program, “The Fourth Estate”.

Barbara then went to work for the domestic automobile manufacturer’s at Traffic Safety Now, Inc. in Detroit, Michigan as a national lobbyist with responsibility for 36 states and the passage of safety belt laws in those states. She had previously headed the Connecticut Safety Belt Coalition and successfully passed Connecticut’s safety belt law. In Detroit, she was further responsible for all the media and public relations campaigns in the 36 states once the belt laws were passed. She also successfully managed safety belt referendum campaigns in Montana and Oregon.

After Traffic Safety Now fulfilled its mission and successfully implemented safety belt laws in 46 states, Barbara became the founding CEO of HWI International, Inc. located in Hartford CT and Brussels Belgium. The company provided consulting and information services for small and mid-size businesses focusing on European Union. Publications included The Trans European Report and Euro Edge.

Barbara also co-founded Legislative Management Group, a lobbying and public affairs company prior to merging with Evans & Associates in 1994.

Barbara is now the Political and Communications Director for Capitol Voice, our affiliate office in Paris, France.
